Barry Wides, CPA
Barry Wides is a former Federal bank regulatory executive with broad perspective on industry risks, regulations, and policies acquired through four decades of experience working with bank management, legislators, and regulators.

Mr. Wides is a Managing Director at Artisan Advisors where he consults with financial services industry clients on a broad range of compliance, regulatory, and strategic matters. He also serves on Morgan Stanley’s Community Development Advisory Board which advises Morgan Stanley Bank on ways to optimize its Community Reinvestment Act lending and investment performance. In addition, he serves as Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of Amplify Community Investment Partners, which is a Placement Agent raising capital for affordable housing, SBA-licensed Small Business Investment Companies, and other private funds. On both advisory boards, Mr. Wides provides input on affordable housing and small business financing trends, lending and investment opportunities, as well as regulatory developments.

He previously served on the board of directors of the Congressionally-chartered housing finance nonprofit, NeighborWorks America, from 2014 to 2015 where he participated as a member of its Audit Committee. Mr. Wides worked to ensure financial accountability to congressional overseers which provided the corporation annual appropriations of approximately $200 million.

Mr. Wides served for over 20 years as a Deputy Comptroller in Bank Supervision Policy at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) until his retirement in January 2025. In this capacity he had responsibility for administration of the “public welfare” investment authority permitting bank equity investments in commercial real estate projects. He facilitated legislative and regulatory changes as well as policy and legal interpretations enabling over $200 billion of “public welfare” investments by national banks.

Mr. Wides began his career as a Presidential Management Intern and Budget Examiner in the U.S. Office of Management and Budget where he was responsible for federal budget analysis, policy evaluation, and legislative liaison for the Federal Housing Administration, Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

He received a BS in Accounting and MBA in Business Economics from Indiana University, is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland, and is a qualified audit committee financial expert under SEC rules.
