T. Clark Akers

 

T. Clark Akers is Managing Director of Amplify Community Investment Partners.  He has 35+ years of experience raising capital for private and public companies and for private credit and debt funds. Additionally, he has led business development and investor relations for early stage and public companies.  In those roles, Mr. Akers has built a broad and deep network of relationships across the verticals of telecommunications, financial services, financial technology and real estate. 

 

Prior to Amplify, Mr. Akers served as the Chief Business Development Officer of Edge Tradeworks, a financial technology company that built a whole loan trading platform and marketplace for banks, credit unions, and insurance companies. 

 

Prior to Edge Tradeworks, Mr. Akers served as Managing Director in the SBIC Funds Placement Group at B. Riley Financial, an investment bank that provides investment banking, merger and acquisition, advisory, institutional brokerage, and research services.  In that capacity, Mr. Akers was a senior leader on the top performing team that raised both SBIC and RBIC funds from banks across the country. 

 

Before B. Riley, Mr. Akers served as Vice Chairman of Intechra, the largest electronic waste and asset disposal company in the U.S. at that time.  As a co-founder of Intechra, Mr. Akers raised $50 million of equity that was necessary for the organic and acquisitive growth which marked Intechra's rise to leadership in the e-waste business.  Additionally, he was responsible for recruiting and developing key members of Intechra's management team and for strategic accounts acquisition.

 

In 2008, Mr. Akers served on the Board of Managers and was a co-founder of Continuum 700 LLC, a wireless telecommunications start-up that acquired ten 700MHz communications licenses covering approximately 14 million people in an FCC spectrum auction.  In 2016, T-Mobile acquired the Continuum 700 LLC licenses for more than $260 million, generating a 3.35x net return for Continuum investors.

 

In 2000, Mr. Akers served as Senior Vice President of External Affairs for TeleCorp PCS, Inc., the ninth largest wireless telecommunications company in the U.S. at the time. TeleCorp had more than $1 billion in revenue when it was acquired by AT&T Wireless in October of 2000.  Mr. Akers joined TeleCorp through its acquisition of Tritel, a public wireless telecommunications company he co-founded in 1999.

 

From 1994, until the founding of Tritel in 1999, Mr. Akers was a co-founder and Vice President of Business Development for Mercury International Ventures, LLC, a telecommunications company focused on emerging market telecom opportunities.  In that capacity, he was responsible for the acquisition of a nationwide data communications license in Jordan.

 

Mr. Akers serves on the Advisory Board of Pharos Capital Group, a private equity firm based in Nashville and Dallas that provides later stage equity funding to healthcare services companies.

Mr. Akers also serves on the Board of Directors of Volunteer Bank, a community bank headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.

 

Mr. Akers received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1979.  Mr. Akers holds Series 7, 24 and 63 licenses.
